This project for the City of Toronto involved the undertaking of a Natural Resources Impact Assessment to allow for the construction for a road grade separation near and ecologically sensitive surface receptor.

The environmental concerns included the requirement for the assessment of terrestrail and fisheries (Redside Dace concerns) effects as the result of a construction dewatering zone of groundwater level influence, and the reversal of spring discharge areas during the construction period.

It was also Ecoplans' responsibility to evaluate dewatering discharge effects evaluated as it related to the potential for adverse erosion and thermal concerns.

Ecoplans Limited developed a two pronged approach, whereby the Permit to Take Water assessment, monitoring and mitigation approval conditions  were limited to workable items of well interference and erosion concerns.

Dewatering discharge was directed to an area where natural upwelling would be lost durnig dewatering period.

Project staff conducted concurrent research activities for thermal and ecological effects assessments in order to meet conservation authority concerns and to validate, as predicted, that there would be no adverse effects on surface water environments.
